It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three, because the sun’s light failed. The curtain of the sanctuary was split down the middle. And Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I entrust my spirit.” Saying this, he breathed his last.

Strange events marked Christ’s death, pointing to the cosmic significance of what happened on the cross. Jesus died trusting His Father, and He surrendered Himself into God’s hands before he passed. That may have been consolation for his heartbroken family and friends as they watched Him breathe His last. It is a hard thing to watch a loved one die, and harder still to watch them die so horribly. Their grief must have been heavy as they said goodbye.
-
Jesus, you gave your life. Not metaphorically or figuratively, but actually. You died under the wrath of God and the weight of humanity's sin, destruction, and violence. What a dark day. Lord, let the darkness of this Good Friday make us eager for the light of Easter Sunday. Amen.

Jesus died to save us from our sins and give us eternal life. He desires all to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. Are you ready to accept Him as your Lord and Savior?
