STATION 12

  • Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing there, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.

  • Standing as witnesses to Jesus’s suffering are his mother and His other followers. As His life comes to an end, Jesus makes provision for His mother, leaving her in the care of one of His closest disciples. Again we see Jesus’s love displayed from the cross. His last words to His mother and His disciple give us a look into a heart set towards others. A heart filled with compassion to the very end.

  • Jesus, you are so compassionate, caring for your mother while you endured your own great suffering. Thank you for being compassionate towards us, and for dealing kindly with us through our suffering and need. Help us to extend your compassion to others. Amen.

  • You can bring comfort to people who are grieving by sending a card or drawing them a picture, paying a visit, and asking God through your prayers to help them.
